The Environment of Zambia

Introduction:

In this post, we will look at how the physical geography of this beautiful country shapes the way people live every day. By understanding these connections, we can think about how our own local environment affects our lives at home.

What makes this environment special or different?:

Zambia is a special landlocked country located in Southern Africa. It sits on a high plateau which is a flat area of land that is high up in the air. This high elevation keeps the air much cooler than other tropical places. The most famous landmark is Victoria Falls ,which is one of the largest waterfalls on Earth. The spray from the falling water creates a tiny rainforest that stays green all year long.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

The natural world in Zambia gives the people many things they need to survive. Deep in the ground, there are large amounts of copper, which is a metal sold all over the world. The big Zambezi River flows through the country and is used to make electricity for homes and schools. Farmers use the flat land and rich soil to grow maize, which is the main food people eat here. There are also many large parks where wild animals live and that attract people from different countries.
