Communities in Dakuibeqa

The bathroom was also infested with wasps that would sting students that tried to enter. with The whole bathroom was falling apart and needing repair.

Why does the community have this need?:

The school's bathroom was very old and decrepit. The bathrooms became neglected and fell into disrepair after many years. There are about 100 students that go to Sawau District school, and about 80 students lived in dormitories at the school from Monday to Friday. Without a proper bathroom, how were they expected to live, let alone do well in school?

Is this need being met? How?:

After deciding with the Teacher's Group that this was the school's most pressing need, the head teacher and I went together to a Peace Corps conference to start the planning of the project. We collaborated and figured out a good plan. We decided to tear down the old bathroom and build a new one. A husband of one of the teachers was a contractor, and he helped us get quotes for prices for how much it would cost and how many materials we would need. Covid has delayed the project, but it is still in motion, and the village is getting closer to completing the bathrooms.
