My New Friend, Anna-Ophélia

The meals are usually different but, for example, we may eat potatoes, meat and vegetables for dinner. Dad does the cooking in my house.

What is your house like?:

It is a house within the city of Brussels. There are other houses next door and across the street. We also have a large garden with a slide.

What chores do you have at home?:

I have to clean my room and my toys, and I have to empty the washing machine with mom or dad when we do the laundry.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Mom is a professor at Vesalius College. She teaches French and Dutch classes to students from all over the world that attend the school. My dad works in a big office as a manager.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts at 8:30 A.M., but at 8:20 A.M. we go to class and get ready for the day. At the end of the day, we have to put away our books and notebooks. We also make sure the classroom is neat and ready for the next day. Mom or Stacy (our au pair, which is a nanny) picks me up at 3:00 P.M., and we go home. My mom or Stacy usually rides their bike, and I leave on my scooter. If it's too cold outside, we will ride in our family car.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Dad drives me to school with the car, but sometimes it's difficult because there are a lot of cars and trams running throughout the city. Two weeks ago, we had an accident, and a tram hit the car. Everyone was fine, but it has made my parents and me a little more careful when we go outside. I still can't go to school alone. Mom said I have to wait until I'm 10 years old.
