Goal Three of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals is “Good Health and Well-being.” I have recently been given an opportunity to help work towards this goal by being a medical translator for a medical mission here in the Dominican Republic. The mission was a collaborative effort between an American program called Timmy Global Health and a Dominican organization called Banelino. Together, we visited five communities in Monte Cristi and served 450 patients, all in the effort to improve local health outcomes, provide medications and offer medical insights. It was an incredible experience and something I definitely want to be a part of again in the future. Being in the Peace Corps provides many opportunities to translate for medical missions like this one, so even though my service is not specifically health related, I’m glad I have opportunities to partake in furthering this Sustainable Development Goal.

As for a goal that directly relates to my service, "Goal Four: Quality Education" is something I strive to support every day. One of the challenges stated by the UN is a lack of literacy skills in 300 million children worldwide.
