The main reason I wanted to study abroad in London was because they offer some great courses on British literature. However, my favorite class this semester (by far!) has been my class on 19th-century English novels. I really enjoy reading the novels we discuss in this class because they deal with social issues like feminism and socioeconomic inequalities within the context of the Victorian Era. I don’t think I would enjoy this class as much as I do if the professor wasn’t also great, which is why I chose to get to know her better.
My full name is Miranda Al-Reyes.
I live in North London, near Finsbury Park. My house is a big late-Victorian house that we kind of divided up into two different apartments so that my parents live on the lower two floors and my family lives on the upper two floors. So it’s kind of unconventional in that way.
I live with my partner Adam and my son who is three years old. We’re quite a close family because we live in the same building as my parents. We see Adam’s family quite a lot, and my parents help a lot with child care. So in that sense, we’re probably not the most conventional English family, because a lot of the time people live far away from their parents in England.
