My Unforgettable Journey to Rome

Mission to the UN Agencies in Rome, where I got a firsthand look at the role the U.S. plays in supporting global food security.

Afterward, we visited the FAO, where we learned about its mission to promote food security and improve agricultural practices worldwide. The visit included a panel discussion with young professionals working in the field, which gave me invaluable insights into potential career paths related to international development. We had lunch at the FAO terrace overlooking the city, and then toured the Colosseum--an experience I’ll never forget. The grandeur of the Colosseum was humbling, and it felt like I was walking through history!

Day 3: WFP and IFAD – Tackling Hunger and Poverty

On Wednesday, we visited the World Food Program (WFP), where we saw firsthand how the WFP provides food assistance to vulnerable populations around the world. A highlight was hearing from Cindy McCain, who shared her experiences with WFP’s critical humanitarian work. The day continued with a tour of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Here, we learned how the organization supports smallholder farmers through grants and low-interest loans to improve food security.

The highlight of the evening was a networking event at the U.S. Mission, where we met Americans working at various UN agencies. This event not only allowed us to network but also offered a closer look at the careers and opportunities available within these organizations.
