"Na shledanou" for Now

But every day was a new and exciting adventure. I walked through beautiful town squares, met fellow Fulbrighters, spent a week in a castle, learned new words and began to love teaching.

The next few months were nothing short of incredible. I’ve been able to travel all around the Czech Republic, exploring places I never imagined visiting. I’ve especially fallen in love with the city of Olomouc, a beautiful historical city about an hour and a half from my home here. It’s been amazing to experience all that this country has to offer — from the mountains, to the cities, and the small villages in between.

I’ve also gotten to visit five new countries so far — Hungary, Slovakia, England, Turkey, and Austria — and I’m planning to visit at least three more before heading back to the United States. What I’ve learned from all these travels is how big the world really is, and how connected we all are. Being a foreigner is never easy, but across the Czech Republic and Europe, I’ve met friendly people who are interested in learning about the U.S., while also teaching me about their cultures, languages and beautiful countries.

Though I definitely miss my family and friends back home, I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything. It has helped me grow into a more confident person. I’ve made incredible friendships that I know will last even as we all go our separate ways, and I’ve learned so much about education that I can’t wait to apply in my future.

I hope that through getting a glimpse into life in the Czech Republic, you’ll be inspired to go on a journey of your own.
