The Peace Corps Volunteer Experience

Photos

My cohort is called a 'gaal' as this is a local word for boat, signifying that we are all in this together.
At a recent meetup to receive annual vaccines, we had a wonderful time catching up and being silly together for about 24 hours before we had to be back in our villages.
Whenever possible, it's nice to try to combine long car-trips with other volunteers as the journey can be uncertain due to bad roads, bad drivers and cars breaking down all the time.
As we are all living on volunteer budgets (which is not much!) our fun is often free and consists of catching up and playing games.
As PC volunteers, we are not allowed to take vacation in the capital city. However, Lindsay and I had the chance to do some touristy things during a trip to Dakar to get the monkey-pox vaccine.
My fellow Kolda regional volunteers and I enjoy meeting up in the regional capital city every once in awhile. We always have a good time catching up and eating some good food.
After a few months in our respective villages, we all came back to the PC training center to learn more strategies to implement PC goals in our communities, now that we had a better idea about them.
Some of our work counterparts in our villages came to the PC training center with us to learn about our program and how we could help their communities.
