The weather has definitely gotten colder this week! On Wednesday, a cold Arctic blast of wind meant it was time for me to get out my heavy jacket and hat. Brrrrrr! There were a couple of warmer days, but then again today the wind started howling and the ocean swells became stronger.
Sometimes it’s tricky to walk down the hallway without veering to the side. Because it’s now late August and we are going into fall/autumn, I would guess the weather is going to keep getting colder, and that will probably happen pretty quickly because we are so far north.
Everyone has seen lots of birds! Mostly seagulls, but also some gannets and terns. They like to play in the waves around the ship. Why do they stay close to the ship? They like to snack on the bits of food scraps the ship produces. Fish also like these food scraps, and birds also eat fish. Birds are our constant friends. When we were in transit from Reykjavík, Iceland, a few people caught a glimpse of whales.
