In Spain, I visited an old palace called the Alhambra, which had gardens full of these towering trees. They also grow throughout the mountains. The Mediterranean cypress is a fascinating tree because it can live for hundreds of years. Some of the trees I saw may have been more than 1,000 years old.
When I was in Spain, I was living at a lower latitude than I usually do in Norway. This means that I was further south on the globe and closer to the equator. Living in Norway means that I only see daylight from 9am to 3pm in the winter because the northern part of the earth is tilted slightly away from the sun. When I visited Spain, I traveled south, so the sun was up for almost 10 hours instead!
