The weather in Budapest has been all over the place lately. One day it’s warm and sunny, and the next it’s cloudy or rainy, and sometimes both in the same afternoon. It’s pretty chilly in the mornings and evenings, but once the sun comes out, it warms up fast. The leaves have started changing color, so when the light hits the yellow and orange trees, the whole city looks really pretty.
It actually reminds me a lot of the Midwest, and somehow also St. Louis. Budapest sits along the Danube River, and the flat river plain here feels a lot like the Mississippi valley. The weather changes quickly in the same way too—cold when the clouds roll in, but the sun can be really strong when it’s out. It’s funny how even halfway across the world, some things still feel familiar.
I see a lot of dogs here, especially since I live right next to Városliget, the big city park in Budapest. It’s one of my favorite places to walk through and it’s also where Hero’s Square is located—a huge plaza with statues of Hungary’s most important historical leaders and kings.
