This week’s weather reflected Cambodia’s dry season. Days were hot and sunny with very little cloud cover. By mid-morning, the heat settles and stays for the remainder of the day. People adjust their routines to match the weather, often waking early and slowing down in the afternoon when the sun is strongest.
Cambodia has two main seasons: dry season and rainy season. During the rainy seasons, sudden downpours cool the air and turn the roads muddy. The dry season feels steadier, however the heat can be intense. Dust replaces mud and fields begin to dry out.
This week, I saw many animals that are part of my everyday life. Chickens and dogs roam freely through neighborhoods and school grounds. I also saw cows being walked along the road during my afternoon walk. Birds are everywhere, especially near the rice fields, where they search for insects and water.
