I remember this distinctly because there weren’t that many dogs around, Siena is a city of cobblestone instead of parks and grass, which makes owning a dog a bit difficult. However, I believe that lots of families decided to adopt dogs during COVID to give them a good reason to walk around outside. The main type of dog I see are little wiener dogs, but my favorite are the big fluffy ones. Other than that, there aren’t too many animals around, a few pigeons and birds, and of course wild buffalo in the countryside (but you don’t want to run into one of those)!
Due to all the rain and pockets of sun this week, I saw a rainbow on my way home from work! I was studying on the bus ride back doing flashcards on my phone when I looked out the window and saw the clearest rainbow I’ve seen in a while. I put my phone away for the rest of the ride, and tried to spot where the rainbow began and ended every time the bus took a sharp turn.
One cool thing about rain here in Siena is the view from the piazza (the main square). The piazza is slanted downwards with a drain at the very bottom. If you’re able to power through the rain to get to the main square, it’s quite beautiful to watch the rain trickle down the slope like a race to get to the finish line. The sound of the water is also very calming since the rain not only hits the stone streets, but also the fabric of the awnings that hang over the restaurants around the square. There’s also a little fountain in the middle of the piazza. The sound of the rain, therefore, comes in many different forms and creates a really beautiful harmony for those that are willing to listen.
