The weather in Almaty can change rapidly. One moment it will be hot and sunny, and then suddenly it starts pouring rain. The rain here is no joke. I have never witnessed such big raindrops!
This week I went to the zoo, so I saw a lot of animals, including lions, giraffes, elephants, eagles and ostriches. In addition, my host family's apartment has a balcony with a small ledge where pidgeons often perch. Sometimes, we leave bread out for them.
I saw the most beautiful rainbow this weekend, arched over the trees outside the apartment. The balcony overlooks a park and this is the second rainbow I've seen from the balcony this week.
The Alatau mountains are always visible from the city. There are capped with snow year round, and I am excited to go hike there next week.
