Nature News

How was the weather this week?:

Summer is just about to start in Guayaquil, so the city is becoming even hotter than it was before. It was certainly a relief to escape the heat by heading to Quito and then Quilotoa.

When I first arrived at Quilotoa at around 8:00 PM, it was chilly and so foggy that I could barely see my friend in front of me. Luckily, the next morning was brisk and clear, and by midday it was quite warm. However, it soon became cold and rainy in the afternoon. I have missed the cold so much that I was thrilled to have to bundle up and sip tea by the fire in my hostel to warm up in the evening. It was certainly not as cold as the November weather that I am used to in Boston, but the cold was still comforting.

What animals did I see this week? :

There are a lot of stray dogs in the small town next to the crater. A small pack of dogs started out the hike with me and my friends. To my surprise, three of the dogs accompanied us the entire hike through the around the lake! They were great companions, despite the fact that they frequently whined for our food. I also saw a few beautiful birds that magestically flew through the mountains.

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

Although all of the surrounding mountain landscapes were breathtaking, Lake Quilotoa was, of course, the star of the show.
