It is likely that these snails came out because there was a brief rain shower while I was walking there with a friend.
While I was at the park, I found a small garden that had been planted by volunteers. There were many tropical plants and a small shed where the volunteers kept their supplies. It was fun to see the different types of fruits and vegetables that grow in this country. Also, since it is the summer, there are fruits that will become ripe in the next couple of weeks and months. Since I love fresh fruit, I look forward to buying locally grown produce from the store and trying as many different types of fruit as I can.
While in the park, I came across an aloe vera plant! I used to grow aloe vera back at home in the United States and was suprised to also find aloe vera here in Paraguay. Aloe vera is a cactus that is green with pointed edges. It is also a very useful plant that can be used for several purposes. The inside of the branches have a soft, clear gel that you can use if you have a cut or are sunburned. Many types of lotion have aloe vera in them to help heal your skin. Since the sun is very intense here, it is good to know that there are aloe vera plants near by in case I am in the sun too long!
