This means that the Chinese government and private companies are turning forest land into places where they can build factories and other large buildings. This, in turn, leads to the destruction of animal habitats. One example of this is the destruction of lowland forests that contain bamboo to make way for crop cultivation.
Giant pandas also have difficulty reproducing because they are very selective about their mates. Their babies are delicate and often struggle surviving in the wild. These are the reasons why China has been working to reconstruct lost habitats and breed pandas in captivity. Thankfully, these efforts are paying off as pandas, once considered an endangered species, are now considered a vulnerable species. We still have a long way to go with pandas but are moving in the right direction!
