The main language is English, but the English here is uniquely Australian and is spoken in accents that are quite different than the accents that you might hear in America. However, there are many other languages spoken. A fun fact is that there are somewhere in the region of 300 different Aboriginal languages, but only about 150 of them are actually spoken on a daily basis. As the number of people that speak these languages falls, there is a danger that they might die out and be forgotten.
They use the Australian dollar, where one Australian dollar would get you about 0.68 U.S. cents back home in the United States. So, what's a strong currency, the Australian or U.S. dollar?
Like in New York, the price of a bottle of water can vary quite a bit depending on where you buy it. But to give you an idea, it costs 80 Australian cents for a 1500 ml bottle of water (about half a gallon) at the grocery store.
