Pangua, Ecuador

Introduction:

This weekend I went on an adventure. My mentor came to the house with a cargo truck... I was shocked! It was like a pick-up truck, but it had a wooden board to sit on in the back, and it didn’t have a roof. I climbed the back and sat on the board. After everyone hopped on, we started to drive to the mountain where the cascades were. We bumped our arms on a metal bar, which we were supposed to hold onto. As we kept going further in, I saw a banana plantation and some cacao trees scattered around.

What makes this environment special or different?:

La Maná is a town that has smaller villages within it. I live in the village of Toquillal, but there’s a lot more. In these villages, people civilize that area or mountain and make it a village. However in Pangua, nature has not been destroyed. In Panguas, there are tons of small little houses placed in open land in between plantations. What is really special about this environment is that there are plantation workers that come into this neighborhood to prepare bananas  for export.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

I am not sure how this environment helps people. How do you think a gigantic banana plantation helps people living there out?

I think that only people who work in the fields live around there.
