Integrating Into U.K. Life

Throughout my study abroad experience, I have been living in a flat with eight other students. This was quite a change for me. At my school back home, I have never shared a room with more than one other person, and now I share a room with five other people. When I first checked into my flat, I wondered how everyone would get along, because I only knew three out of the eight people who I was to be living with for the next three and a half months. However, I quickly met all of my roommates and we all ended up working together pretty well. I've actually come to enjoy having this many roomates. We have fun movie nights, and often travel together.

It almost seems like yesterday that I stepped off the plane in London. I remeber being really confused once I walked into the airport. Even though English is the primary language spoken in England, some of the words they use are different than the ones used in American English. For example, I needed to take an elevator to get where I needed to go in the airport, and I didn't know that an elevator was called a lift! It was kind of funny when I figured it out.

I finally made my way through the airport and met with the representatives from my host school. They were holding signs with the school's name on it, and there were also a lot of other students gathered around as well. There were so many new people to meet!
