The Hot and Humid Tropical Rainforest

Introduction:

Can you imagine if summer could be all year long? That is what it is like in Malaysia. What do you think the environment is like if it is so hot every day?

What makes this environment special or different?:

Malaysia is special, and quite different from the U.S., because 60-70% of the country is a tropical rainforest. For this reason, it is also known to have many different kinds of plant and animal species. In fact, Malaysia has more than 15,500 types of plant species.

Malaysia also has a tropical rainforest climate, meaning it is hot and humid all year round. It is usually about 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

The environment in Malaysia is home to many different fruits and vegetables. Many Malaysians have their own fruit trees right next to their home. In addition, the country eats a lot of rice and fish because the bodies of water allow many people to grow rice and catch fish and the other types of seafood from the oceans and lakes.

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

It may be hot and humid here but it does rain, too. In fact, Malaysia experiences heavy rainfall called monsoons. Monsoon season can be dangerous due to flooding.
