Akwaaba (Welcome) to our journey in Ghana!
Before we get started on this amazing journey to Africa, I want to share more about who I am and how I began my travels to the motherland.
I was born on October 3, 1979, in Richmond, California, but have lived in Oakland, California since the age of 12. As the youngest and only daughter with three brothers, I grew up very shy without much to say. I never really knew how to express myself with words.
I come from a family of musicians, dancers, singers and even a hip-hop artist. But I wasn't sure where my place was and wanted to explore more than what was in front of me. I grew up seeing a lot of violence and drugs in the community and always wanted to find a way to help our community, but didn't know where to start. My parents practiced different religions, Islam (father) and Christianity (mother). I had no idea how to serve two religions at such a young age, but I knew finding my own religious path would help guide me to my true purpose in life.
On July 4, 1990, my father passed away. I felt like I lost the only person in my life that truly understood my personality and treated me like a queen.
