The region of Hong Kong is known for its unique culture. It's a place where Eastern and Western influence meet and mix. Though its culture has affected development in the region, its geography and climate have also played a large part in making the area what it is today.
Hong Kong is a fairly mountainous region, and much of the region's flat land has come from a process known as land reclamation. In other words, it's there because of human influence on the existing terrain. With Hong Kong being so close to sea level, land that has been reclaimed has been built up by bringing in dirt, rocks and clay to bring an area that was once underwater to the surface. This process is used all over the world. In fact, in one European country, the Netherlands, roughly 17% of its land mass is from land reclamation.
Being located so close to the equator, Hong Kong is a very temperate place to live. During my time here, the temperatures have ranged from 60 to 69 degrees Fahrenheit. In fact, the lowest average temperature in Hong Kong is about 50 degrees Fahrenheit. This climate is hospital to all huge variety of life.
