Привіт/Privit - Hello everyone! My name is Victoria (Tori) and I'm from Long Island, New York. Last year, I graduated college from St. John's in Queens and joined the Peace Corps. The Peace Corps is a really cool program that lets you volunteer in countries all around the world for two years. The Peace Corps sent me to Ukraine to be an English teacher! I decided to volunteer because I love teaching, helping people and learning about new cultures. I'm happy that I joined!
I live in a small town called Radomyshl in the center of the country, about an hour from the capital, Kyiv. Our town is pretty rural - most people have chickens, cows and farmland. When I go to the store, there are even horses "parked" outside! Here, we speak Ukrainian and Russian. The alphabet uses different letters too.
I teach English in a small school to grades 3 - 11. In Ukraine, grades are called "forms." I work every day with another Ukrainian English teacher named Toma who translates a lot for me. A few months ago, I adopted a Cocker Spaniel puppy named Dima, who will come back to New York with me!
I love living here and can't wait to show you more cool things about Ukraine.
Until next time, пока (poka) - bye!
