Hi class, it’s your friendly neighborhood wildlife biologist here, Marc! I wanted to take the time to share with you how my daily life in Costa Rica flows. I am interning at the Monteverde Institute here in Costa Rica as a wildlife biologist. I am also practicing and learning Spanish as the community here speaks Spanish (their primary language) and English. So, without further ado, let me describe how my life is here in beautiful Costa Rica.
My full name is Marc Mains.
I live in a small town named Monteverde in the Puntarenas Province. Monteverde, which means “Green Mountain” in Spanish, is a high-altitude town located along the Tilaran mountain range. As you would imagine, the views are amazing, and you can even see the Arenal Volcano from certain locations on clear days. The house that I am staying in is located right on the edge of a wildlife reserve named Bajo del Tigre (a rain shadow forest reserve). This means that I can literally walk up the driveway and be right in a wildlife reserve. The house is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom single-level dwelling with a tin roof (due to the amount of rain they receive here, a metal roof is preferred to prevent rot). I have my own bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a desk and a wardrobe to store my clothes and shoes.
