Homelessness has always been a problem in Dublin, but it has become even worse than ever before in the past year. There are not enough houses for everyone and the homes that are available are too expensive for many people to afford.
I learned about the homeless community in Dublin. It's quite distressing to learn that someone you know does not have a house or can't afford to buy food or clean themselves, and to realize that there is not much you can do to help that person. This feeling is very defeating.
The main reason a lot of people are homeless right now is because of what is being called the "housing crisis," meaning there are not enough affordable homes. Homes are becoming too expensive for many people in Dublin, and most of these people don't have a job, so they are not able to buy things that will help them get by. Whenever I am in Dublin, I often see people on the sides of the streets holding empty cups, asking for money. Although I give money out from time to time to homeless people in Dublin, not everyone does. It's important to remember that we are not able to help everyone, as much as we would like to.
