What are your favorite foods? Do you have a special meal you like to eat at home? Do you like to try new things? When I was your age, I was really scared to try new foods. But as I've gotten older, I've learned that trying dishes from other places and cultures can be really exciting and tasty. Since coming to Norway, I've discovered a lot of great food. There's yummy pastries like mørketidboller (donuts with custard filling and chocolate frosting), cozy dinners like finnbiff (reindeer stew with potatoes) or holiday goodies like peperkaker (Norwegian gingerbread cookies). Not everything that I've tried has been my favorite, but I'm enjoying all my new experiences and learning a lot too!
The food I'm going to tell you about today is fiskesuppe, which translates to "fish soup". There's not one specific way to make fiskesuppe, but usually it's a creamy soup made with fish, other seafood and vegetables. The one I ate was made of salmon, cod, shrimp, carrots and leeks. It sort of reminds me of clam chowder back home, but the flavors are a bit different.
