Work Ahead!

Introduction:

When I first arrived in Sogamoso, I was surprised that many streets around the city weren't paved. After all, this is an important commercial hub for the smaller towns surrounding it. Recently, the city has launched construction projects across several areas, paving the roads after they had been left in dirt for many years.

What community need did I learn about?:

I learned that a lot of commercial products pass through the city, which makes it essential that the streets and roads are in good condition. The region is known for exporting potatoes and green onions to the whole country. Many truckers transport these products to big cities such as Bogota, Medellin, and Cali.

Why does the community have this need?:

The city must have paved roads so they are safer for vehicles and pedestrians. It rains a lot in Colombia, so these dirt roads often get flooded and can also create potholes, which can be dangerous for vehicles passing.

Is this need being met? How?:

The city has begun several construction projects to pave streets and roads busy with traffic. They are closing off these parts of the city so workers can execute the plan with optimal efficiency.
