Getting Around Slovakia

Introduction:

In Slovakia, getting around by train, bus or foot is a common part of daily life that is also a major part of the country’s culture and connection to its environment.

How do people get around?:

While many people use cars in Slovakia, most people use public transportation. To get between villages and small towns, people use buses. They run from morning to night, and it only costs a couple of euros to ride. To get from small towns to cities, people use trains. They run all day, and depending where you are going, it only costs about ten euros. Both are great, but sometimes, they can be delayed or take a really long time to get to where you want to go! Within towns and villages, people walk a lot. It is very common to walk to the grocery store or school.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I was a bit nervous at first, even though I have taken trains in Philadelphia before. It took a while to get used to, like learning how to buy a ticket and find my seat, but I have gotten the hang of it! The buses and trains are how I get around Slovakia and to other countries in Europe. They also have some really awesome views of the mountains and nature that is in Slovakia, so it can be a very peaceful ride!
