The currency used here is the rupiya. Currently, $1 is equivalent to around 115 rupiya.
A bottle of water costs about 40 rupiya, so less than 50 cents!
I had some buffalo momo this week that was delicious! Momo is a steamed dumpling that is filled with either meat or vegetables. It is a traditional staple, or basic, food in Nepal and Tibet. What kind of dumplings have you had?
I listened to a lot of Spanish music this week on my way to school. "Flores en Febrero" by Los Claxons and "Si Tu No Estas" by Gente de Zona were some of my favorite songs this week.
The most fun thing this week was experiencing the Darjeeling Cultural and Tourism Festival, celebrating the Queen of the Hills. Darjeeling used to be known as the Queen of the Hills during British colonization. There was a big market that displayed local art and clothing. There was delicious food everywhere; I enjoyed some yummy biryani (mixed rice dish).
