Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

Danish is the main language spoken in Denmark. It sounds a little silly, if you only speak English, because they have some letters and sounds that aren't a part of English at all. I am lucky that some of the most important words are easy to say, even though I don't speak Danish. For example, to say "Hi", you only have to say Hej, which is pronounced the exact same way. And to say "Thank you", you say Tak, which is pronounced like a thumb "tack" that you'd put in the wall.

Almost every single person that lives in Denmark speaks English, so it is very easy to live here and not speak Danish. Danish is a very difficult language to learn, so it's helpful to be able to speak English. It is still important to learn to say things like "Hi" and "Thank you" in the native language of the country you are in, so I use Hej and Tak almost every day.

What type of money is used here?:

In Denmark, they use the Danish kroner. Kroner is Danish for "crown". Approximately ten kroner equals $1.50. Every month, I rent a bicycle to ride around town, and I pay 200 kroner a month. That sounds like a lot if you are thinking in dollars, but 200 kroner equals about $30, so it's not so bad.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water costs between ten and 20 kroner!
