I was just pouring my Einspänner attempts in a white mug. I am not big on eating breakfast-- in fact, I spent several months in high school just drinking a Malta India for breakfast-- but the Austrian breakfast is one that I can get behind.
As you know, the Spotify 2021 Wrapped recently was released. So, I've been listening to the playlist that Spotify made for me of all of my favorite songs. I listen to a lot of Dembow (Spanish rap) and Merengue, which are my two favorite types of Dominican music. I've also been listening to a lot of indie-rock, such as the Growlers, Crumb, and Chicano Batman. Spotify threw some musical songs on there too, such as The Club and Carnival Del Barrio from In the Heights.
Of course, the playlist also reflects my love for jazz as it has a lot of bebop, or a style of jazz that is usually fast-paced and un-mimicable. Bebop is a style of jazz that formed out of resistance against racism. African American soldiers who returned from fighting fascism after World War II returned to the U.S., just to be faced with segregation and discrimination. Bebop was a way for Black jazz musicians to push back against the stereotype of the happy performer, whose only role is to entertain a white audience, as they decided to play extremely complex music that showed off their ability and skill as musicians.
My Spotify wrapped says that Showtunes is one of my favorite genres, which I am not entirely too sure what they mean by that, but maybe they are referring to the 50s doo-wop and musicals that I listen to. I also have some Migos and A$AP Rocky on the playlist, but the playlist is really mostly indie because that's my favorite genre of music.
