The main languages spoken in Kenya are English and Swahili. One of my friends on the trip has been learning Swahili for about five years, and she did an amazing job speaking to locals in the language. She even taught me several words. Napenda twiga means "I like giraffes"!
The type of money used in Kenya is the shilling. One U.S. dollar equals to about 134 Kenyan shillings. A typical meal at a restaurant in Kenya costs about 800 shillings, or about $6.

The best meal I had this week was at a restaurant that served jollof rice, a West African stew that is typically made of rice, tomatoes, meat, spices and other vegetables. It was my first time having jollof rice, and I loved it! The meat was very flavorful and tasted amazing.
