Aside from the seminar, which I will write about in my next journal, I had a lot of fun taking a bus tour of Brussels!
I read a lot about the sewer system in Brussels at the Sewer Museum. As someone who has researched both wastewater treatment and stormwater management, it was interesting to learn about how sewage moves through Brussels. For instance, I learned that Brussels has a combined sewer system, like Philadelphia! That means that stormwater and wastewater enter the same pipes, where they mix.
I went for a couple runs through the city. On one of my runs, I took saw the "Cheval à l'Abreuvoir" (Horse at the Pond) statue.
During my time in Brussels, I witnessed a few protests. As the capital of the E.U., Brussels is an significant place for people to hold political demonstrations and make their voice heard.
