We also got a fresh jugo de guanabana (a sweet fruit) to share.
This week we celebrated Las Fiestas de Cuenca, which mark la independencia de Cuenca. To mark this holiday, there were several concerts every day from Thursday to Monday. I listened to traditional music from las Sierras (mountain region); reggaeton, popular latin music from artists like Karol G and Bad Bunny; and went to a concert featuring the artist Aldo Ranks, who is even in a song from the Barbie movie!
The most fun activity from the festivales de Cuenca was a Competencia de Coches de Madera. During this activity, they close the main street and viewers line the sidewalks. Participants then race down the street in homemade (and often themed) wooden cars: one person steers the car, and their partner pushes them from behind. The street is cobblestone, so it's a bumpy ride!
This week I read from one of my books to help me learn Spanish. It is the classic story of "The Little Prince," or "El Principito", but this version features the story in English on one page, and the story in Spanish on the next, so that I can compare and learn new vocabulary more quickly.
This week I went to watch my friend play in her recreational soccer league. They have games every Sunday!
