In Madrid, the main language spoken is Spanish, also called Castellano. Spanish is used by almost everyone in daily life, at school, and at work. It’s the official language of Spain and many other countries around the world!

In Madrid, however, you’ll mostly hear Spanish. Since Madrid is the capital, people from all over the world live here, so you might also hear English, French, Arabic, or Chinese from visitors or residents. It’s fun to listen to so many different languages in one place!

What type of money is used here?:

In Madrid, and throughout Spain, the type of money used is the Euro (€). The euro is the currency used in many countries in Europe. Coins come in different sizes, with values like 1 cent, 2 cents, and 50 cents, while the bills are colorful and come in amounts like 5, 10, and 20 euros. It’s fun to use euros because the designs on the coins and bills often show symbols from different European countries! For example, Spain’s coins sometimes feature famous landmarks or historical figures like King Felipe VI.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

In Madrid, a small bottle of water usually costs 1 to 2 euros if you buy it at a shop or vending machine.
