Here in Belize, the most common languages are English, Spanish, Kriol, and Q'eqchi, and almost everyone speaks at least two languages, if not more.

What type of money is used here?:

The Belize dollar (BZD) is the currency used here. There are paper bills with the face of Queen Elizabeth for 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 BZD. There are also coins for 1, 5, 25 and 50 cents as well as 1 dollar. A coin worth 25 cents is also known as a shilling. One cent coins are very rare and are almost never used in everyday transactions.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A large bottle of water costs around $2 BZD, but you can buy small plastic pouches of water for 25 cents.

What was the best meal this week?:

During the holidays, I enjoyed one of my favorite dishes, ceviche. It is made with diced tomatoes, onions and seafood, typically shrimp, conch (a type of shellfish) or octopus. Served cold with lime, it has an amazing sour and salty flavor that is best on a hot day.

What music did I listen to this week?:

I have been enjoying classical music this week, specifically The Vampire Masquerade by Peter Gundry. Try to recognize all of the different instruments! How many of them can you count in just one song?
