






This practice was part of many assimilation policies claiming to improve Aboriginal people's lives by forcibly assimilating them to White Australian culture. To forcibly assimilate a group of people means making them adopt a different culture by forbidding them from speaking their own language, wearing their traditional clothes, or engaging in their own traditions or practices. It's comparable to the boarding schools Native Americans were forced to go to in the US.
This week I played trivia at the LGBT Mardi Gras Party at UNSW! I got second place because I knew all the New Orleans questions faster than anyone else.
This week, I found out a hurricane is coming towards Australia. They call them cyclones here, but the only difference is that they spin the opposite direction. It's projected to go farther north than Sydney, so I should be okay.
