In my community, this is the kids FAVORITE artist! Whenever I am with them, I always make sure to play his songs. The kids also love to dance along to Fancy Gadam's music and they are way more talented than I am at dancing.
The most fun activity was the movie night I hosted. There are no TVs or computers in my community and very few people have smartphones. You also have to travel 8 hours to reach the nearest movie theater. So, the kids don't have the opportunity to watch a lot of movies. I used to love watching movies growing up and wanted to share this with the children. I host monthly movie nights where I set up my computer and invite all of the children to come and watch. This time we watched Kung Fu Panda and everyone loved it!
This week I read a book called East of Eden by John Steinbeck. One of my favorite things to do in my free time is read under a giant shea tree (a common African tree) next to my house. It is so hot during the day and because there is no air conditioning, it is even hotter inside. The place that is most cool during a hot day is out of the sun and in the shade. My shea tree does an excellent job at giving lots of shade.
This week I played lots of soccer, or as they call it in Ghana, futbol. The children play every day when the sun starts to set and it gets a little cooler. There is no grass field so they all play in a dirt area. Because it is dirt, very few kids play with shoes. In fact, I have gotten used to taking off my shoes whenever I want to play soccer.
