In South Korea, the main language spoken is Korean. Here, they call it Hangul (haang gl). Once, everyone in Korea spoke Chinese until a famous king created a new language for his people. I can only speak a little bit of Korean, but don't worry! If you visit Seoul, there are many people who speak English. Many signs and posters are written in English as well.
South Korea's money is known as the South Korean won. The symbol looks like this: ₩. It is very different from money in the United States. Paper money comes in 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, and 50,000 bills. Coins come in 1, 5, 10, 100, and 500. It sounds like a lot of money, right? Here is something cool. If you have 1,000 won in South Korea, that means you only have sixty-seven cents in the United States.
Here, a big bottle of water costs 1,950 won. Can you guess how much that is in U.S dollars? A large bottle of water is $1.30!
