However, the tap water in San Jose is safe to drink, so I just use a refillable bottle!
My best meal this week, based on taste alone, was actually my breakfast on Saturday morning! I had a large cup of café con leche (coffee with milk) made with local coffee beans, fresh fruit and grain bread with maracuyá (passionfruit) jelly! I had never had passionfruit jelly before this trip, but I now firmly believe it is something everyone needs to experience. It is almost better than fresh blackberry jam.
This week I listened to a lot of Reggaetón music. For those of you who are not familiar with this type of music, it is basically Despacito, but the better version without Justin Bieber. It can be described as a mix of hip hop and Latin American and Caribbean music, usually in Spanish.
Since this past week was New Year's, I had the opportunity to celebrate the Tico way! Celebrating el año nuevo (the new year) is a family event here in Costa Rica, with people getting together to grill out, celebrate with family and to shoot off fireworks from dusk until dawn! After midnight, people 18 and older go out to the discotecas (dance clubs) or bars to dance and pass the new year with friends.
