The best meal this week was a ribeye steak and chips (also known as French fries)! This was followed by ice cream with chocolate sauce! We get a steak every Saturday night.
I have made friends with some engineers from Stellenbosch University in South Africa who are talented musicians. My new friend James-John plays guitar and Professor Annie Bekker plays the violin. Together we have sung a lot of Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Imagine Dragons, Xavier Rudd and Ed Sheeran.
I played darts against some friends (Blake from North Carolina, Pierre from France and Frazer from Scotland), and I won!
I am currently reading "Endurance" by Alfred Lansing, which is a very accurate reflection on what happened to Ernest Shackleton and his men in 1915. I thought it was interesting that in Shackleton's day when a seal was spotted, "hunting parties were quickly organized". Today it is illegal to hunt or harm the marine life here. It is quite telling how we have developed to be more respectful of animals. What it also makes me think about is how desperate the crew must have been to kill for survival. We are very lucky to have enough food on board to support us and keep us well-fed through the expedition.
