Questions with Khanza: A Peek Into a Kid's Life From Across the Globe

Introduction:

For this field note, I got to meet Khanza (khahn-zah), a daughter of one of the teachers at my high school, here in Jambi. Khanza is 9 years old, and I think she is in the first grade. She has a sister named Qeenza (qeen-zah), who is 7. They are both very sweet!

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

I eat rice and boiled eggs for breakfast and rice and fried chicken for lunch. 

[Payton: Usually people eat rice, a protein (chicken, beef, or fish) and some vegetables.]

What is your house like?:

Medium-sized. We have three bedrooms, one bathroom and one kitchen.

What chores do you have at home?:

I wash the plates, spoons and forks. I clean my bedroom.

What jobs do your parents have?:

My mom is a teacher, and my dad is a forester.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts at seven, and I go home at eleven.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

I go to school by car or motorcycle.

[Payton: I moved to my host city after writing the field note on transportation and have found that most families own a car and probably a motorcycle if both parents work.
