Motorcycles fill the streets like schools of fish wherever you go, humming and growling like a parade of cheetahs. A few cars drive down the busy streets, and are passed by motorcycles, which gather together in front of them at traffic lights. Where are they going? And why are there so many of them?
Few people in Indonesia have cars. Instead, these folks use motorcycles. Many people use motorcycle taxis, called ojek, and that is an important part of how people get to places and make a living. There are also public buses, but those are less commonly used. Flying is very, very expensive, so few people do it. (The word ojek is Indonesian and is spelled the same when there is only one or when there are more than one ojek, which is why I say ojek and not ojeks when I am talking about more than one of them.)
