People Movers

Introduction:

In this piece, I doubt I'll show you a mode (form) of transportation a.k.a. "people mover" that you've never heard of, but you may be surprised as to the extent to which the different forms of transport are used and my number one way of getting around.

How do people get around?:

Like many large European cities, public transportation in Dublin is easily accessible, and can take you just about anywhere. I was particularly excited about this since it's not as though I could bring my car with me to Ireland! Someone really needs to figure out teleportation for times like this, although I must say I am glad I don't have to drive myself everywhere now, and it's better for the environment too. Instead of driving, I mostly use the buses or occasionally something called the 'Luas' which is a tram (also called light rail). Basically, it runs on electricity via suspended wires all over the city. You'll notice it in one of the photos. Another fun fact is that 'Luas' is the Irish word for 'speed'.

Two fun facts about the buses, here: they all have internet, and you can charge your phone from practically any seat! And did I mention it's free to do both of these things!! Also, the buses are pretty much all double-deckers, and the bus drivers do NOT wait for you to go up or down the stairs before beginning to move, so you'd better hang on to the handrail!
