Classic Bolivian meals usually consist of a variation of meat, rice and potatoes. Even though each plate tastes different, the essence of what makes a meal is the same. What are the most important parts of a meal to you?
I tried Pique Macho. If you're really hungry and want to feel full to the point of being sleepy, I recommend it. The basis of this dish is fried potatoes. Then there's seasoned steak with some sauce and cut up hot dogs or chorizo (sausage), depending on what you want. You also have hard boiled egg on the side. You can get it with some chopped vegetables (not pictured in my photo) and some llajua, which is Bolivian spicy sauce.
I was so hungry and, because I said I was so hungry, my host family thought I'd like to have the Pique Macho. It was such a big plate that they joked that I had to eat it all by myself. I was hungry, but not that hungry. Pique Macho is different from most Bolivian dishes, because usually in Bolivian culture everyone gets their own plate instead of helping themselves from a big pot in the middle. But Pique is usually served in a big plate in the middle and we all share. It was so yummy. My host brother covers it with mayonnaise, but I prefer ketchup.
