Guangzhou is in a region of China called the Pearl River Delta. A delta is where a river ends and spills out into a larger body of water. Many of the world's largest cities are in this area, including Guangzhou (pronounced "Gwahng Joe"), Shenzhen ("Shen Jen"), and Hong Kong. This week, I will tell you about some of the transportation I used to get around these three big cities.
In every large Chinese city, there are new subway systems that are clean, friendly and fast. If a subway doesn't get you where you need to go, for only 25 cents (USD), you can take a bus instead. Finally, China also has "dockless bikes". You can use your phone to scan a code on a bicycle and ride it wherever you want. When you are done, you just park it on a sidewalk and lock it up. This helps a lot of Chinese people get around quickly without having to worry about getting their own bike stolen.
I think the most amazing form of transportation in this region, however, is the "bullet train," which connects one city to another. They are called "bullet trains" because they go so fast. One train taking me from Guangzhou to Hong Kong was going 184 miles per hour and it was so smooth that I couldn't even feel it. I do have to say, though, looking out the window might make you dizzy!
