The most interesting place that I visited this week was called Gaztalugatxe. This is about an hour away from the city center of Bilbao. It is right on the Bay of Biscay and we had to hike down a mountain to get to the ancient bridge. Then, we had to climb up 300+ stairs to get to the top where there is a church. Everyone rings the bell on the church three times for good luck and to tell everyone that they made it to the top! The famous show Game of Thrones filmed several scenes here. It was breathtaking, literally! I was so out of breath because it was so many stairs to climb and we had to hike back up the mountain to get back!
Last weekend, I traveled to Pamplona, Spain. It is about 2 hours away from Logroño by bus. I went in the morning and came back that night, so it was just a day trip. This city is famous for the San Fermín Festival, which happens every July. During the festival, the Running of the Bulls takes place. This is when about 6-8 bulls run down a pedestrian-only street and people run away from the bulls. It is very dangerous! Pamplona is a beautiful city and I am glad I was able to learn more about the festival while I was there.
