With my host brother and some of his friends, I watched the famous Spanish film Volver about several working Spanish women and family tragedy. A song featured in the film, of the same name, has been stuck in my head all week! Besides that, I listened to a lot of 80s music on the car ride home from Girona.
As a part of my program, my class went to a fútbol (soccer) game at Camp Nou, the famous stadium which is home to Barcelona's soccer team. Being a fan of the team is almost a requirement for stepping a foot into Barcelona. Do you recognize the name Lionel Messi? He is one of the most famous soccer players in the world, and he plays for Barcelona! On the night that we were at the stadium, team Barcelona won their game 3-0.
This week, besides my textbooks and assigned readings, I started reading El Perro de los Baskerville (The Hound of the Baskervilles) by Arthur Conan Doyle. I have read it before in English, so now I am trying it in Spanish! Do you know the famous character created by Arthur Conan Doyle?
This week, I learned how to play a Spanish board game called Los Descubridores (The Discoverers). The goal was to create cities or villages in order to get points. It involved strategic placement of pieces, trade negotiations and a lot of luck. Needless to say, I lost badly, but I had fun! Then we played again last night, and I managed to scrape out a win. Yes!
