Travel News

Take a look at some of the pictures of this exhibit in this week's album! On our way to the museum, we walked through El Raval, the oldest neighborhood in Barcelona. Many immigrants from overseas, as well as newcomers from within Spain, live in this area of the city.

Other Travel News from this week:

Barcelona has an efficient bus system which I explained in detail in my last field note. What I forgot to mention is that the lines change at night. Different buses run at different times after midnight, which means I have to be extra careful to make sure I catch my bus. I had to take a taxi home after I missed my bus one night, but taxis are cheaper here than in the United States. Usually, it is less than $10 to get me safely home!

That being said, starting Friday, January 18th, taxi drivers are going to be strike here in Barcelona. They are protesting against new regulations being proposed by the city and the growing use of Uber, which only recently arrived to Spain. Hundreds of taxis are blocking a main road into Barcelona, called Gran Via. This has made travelling around the city a little more difficult, and one local has warned me that this could be a long protest. I will keep you updated!
